YWCA Names Bracy as CEO
The YWCA Metro St. Louis board of directors has named Adrian E. Bracy as the organization’s chief executive officer. Bracy previously worked in St. Louis for more than a decade as an executive for the St. Louis Rams. She returns to the St. Louis community to begin her new role as YWCA chief executive. She began on Mon., Aug. 17.
Bracy, 49, has served as chief financial officer for the Arizona Cardinals Football Club since 2007. She was previously vice president of finance for the St. Louis Rams football franchise for 12 years, and prior to that, vice president of finance and administration for the Joe Robbie Stadium/Miami Dolphins.

“I thought running a business was all about being organized and orderly,” said 15-year-old Aja Philpot, “I didn’t know it was so creative.” Philpot was just one of the 19 high school girls attending a week-long YW-Teens Summer Entrepreneurship Academy, July 6-10. The program, in its second year, is designed to bolster the rise of future women business owners.

More than 60 people attended a “Connect and Build a Network,” a “meet and greet” of sorts that was recently sponsored by the YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Heritage Center. The luncheon was hosted for Locust Business District business owners to get to know one another as well as learn about the amenities of the center, located at 2711 Locust in midtown St. Louis.

A YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Legacy Fund endowment has been established to support and sustain the operations of the Phyllis Wheatley Heritage Center and the Phyllis Wheatley Apartments. And as a meaningful way to acknowledge the many contributions of recently retired CEO Joy C. Burns, a fund has been established within the Legacy Fund in her name.

BACK TO TOP New Mission Statement is Approved
The YWCA General Assembly voted by a 91 percent approval margin on May 3, 2009, to revise the organization’s mission statement. Utilizing the local affiliation’s name, the new mission states:
YWCA Metro St. Louis is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
